As greenhouse gas emissions continue to accelerate away from us, most people haven't been given the chance to inform themselves about abrupt climate breakdown. Scientists acknowledge that everything is happening faster than expected.

Every year since 2008, an average of 26.4 million persons around the world have been displaced by floods, windstorms, earthquakes or droughts, equivalent to 1 person being displaced every second.

Remember:

1. We have to get rid of most cars.
2. We can't just keep mining.
3. We must produce food differently.
4. We have to change construction.
5. We must make clothes that last.
6. We can't travel by air in this way.
7. We must use less energy.
8. We must protect everybody.
We need to transform the global economy so that public transport and bicycles are virtually the only forms of travel (in a way that serves the elderly, the sick and the most vulnerable, of course).

This is a challenge, but it isn't impossible.

Keith waits behind his normal cluster of rocks for the human to come into the cove. He's not supposed to be this close to shore, much less at the surface, but the sky has always called to him.
The man who comes to swim in the sheltered cove every other day calls to him too.

Keith bites down on his bottom lip, sharp teeth digging in as he cranes his head, watching the shore path. There's a smaller group of rocks closer in that he could potentially hide behind.
Checking the path was still empty, he decides to risk it. His tail splashes softly as he takes off, black fin tips shimmer in the morning sun before disappearing back below the water.

It seems an independent auditor came to Abu Salim today looking into UN activities. The guards told detainees in advance not to mention that they haven't been fed for months (some of their families are sending them money to buy food with instead, which guards take a cut from).
Messages today from Qasr bin Ghashir dc, southern Tripoli, today, where they’re asking for evacuation & any organisation that can help them.
Sorry for my confusion, the teenager above was being held in Qasr bin Ghashir, but has now been moved to the UNHCR facility in Tripoli for evacuation. He's asking for help for those he left behind.

What size of land would be required to supply the aviation industry with the sufficient amount of biojetfuel, should a biofuel revolution take place?

Six times the area of all the fields in the world.
That is, 68 percent of the total land area on Earth.

Earlier this year, a long-distance flight was performed by Qantas, using 10% biofuel. 150 acres of mustard was required for this flight. ow.ly/byRP30lz8td
Suppose that we would replace all fossil jetfuel with 100% biojetfuel with the same area requirements as Qantas' flight.
Also, suppose that roughly 1/4 of all flights are long-distance & that short-distance flights require 75% less fuel than long-distance.
