I've been looking for positive and reassuring news about the immediate future of SA. I've not succeeded. The following Op-Eds panint a serious situation. IMF intervention is the last additional pain we need. But it may be unavoidable now.
R wJohnson: It is simply impossible for Eskom to right itself without large-scale redundancies, a purge of the innumerable insider business deals still going on, an end to cadre deployment and the substantial sale of assets.

Mike Rossouw - The current pricing policy rewards Eskom’s inefficiencies and encourages irrational decisions. This policy gives Eskom the right to recover all its costs, even for loss-making plants +other inefficiencies. 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️

In such a situation we need to be comforted that Pres Ramaphosa is in full control and is able to make tough decisions. We have no evidence that this is the case. Eskom is a case in point. The unions have literally blocked his moves.
The Eskom restructuring plan announced in Feb 2017 still outstanding. He spends more time and energy on trying to hold together a party that is irreversibly collapsing and splitting. There's total chaos. Perhaps IMF will succeed where he failed. Sad.
