The FBI recently announced the arrest of a guy with plans to attack a Vegas synagogue. The would-be perp had online connections to Atomwaffen & its offshoot Feuerkrieg Division, & was deadly serious... but also quixotic in ways that are strangely hopeful.

For example: one of the would-be perp's quixotic plans involved an eight-man sniper squad. Another involved two squads attacking a synagogue.
In reality, the perpetrator tried to recruit *one* homeless guy just to perform surveillance for him. And failed!

The would-be perpetrator told the informant & the undercover FBI who befriended him that he got fed up with Feuerkrieg Division because nobody in it was actually interested in action, and by "action" he meant "murdering Jews."

For those who don't keep up with the actualfa: Atomwaffen is basically a Nazi cult that is very into lone wolf terrorism as part of their ideology. Multiple people associated with them have committed murders (impulsive garbage person stuff rather than terrorist mastermind stuff).
The Vegas would-be perp was in arguably the most bloody-minded group on the American far right, one with an actual violent history... and still couldn't find anybody who wanted to join him in actually murdering people.

Meanwhile, the similar Hard Righty group known as The Base is getting some press attention for reportedly planning a "hate camp," which I gather is their term for paramilitary training.
Like a lot of would-be hardcore Hard Righty groups, The Base is potentially very dangerous but also pretty inept.
Their initial plan was to stay totally below the radar. They were blown pretty quickly. (My guess is the ADL's guy in Atomwaffen was among their first recruits.)

Clearly, the Base's supersecret highly dangerous seditious conspiracy to establish an ethnostate requires operators w/ real skills, so they're recruiting serious, dedicated people ready to go underground and devote themselves to a hidden movement --

People ask me why I'm not more worried about white nationalists and my answer is always "have you ever paid attention to them for like five minutes"
The actualfa can be highly dangerous as individuals, but it's rare for groups of them to actually get their ducks in a row. They're not very good at organizing, and their ideology is not a draw.
Anyway, the story of the Vegas would-be perp offers a weird little ray of hope. For now.
