Jean-Claude Juncker will speak to Boris Johnson on the phone this afternoon, EU Commission announces.
Commission spokeswoman says the phone call will take place 'in the spirit of constructiveness and engagement'. Adds: 'We have been saying that we stand ready to engage constructively with the UK on any concrete proposals that are compatible with the Withdrawal Agreement.'
Commission also confirms that Boris Johnson's top EU advisor, David Frost, will visit Brussels tomorrow for meetings with Michel Barnier's Taskforce 50.
EU Commission says of Jonathan Faull's alternative backstop proposal: 'It's good that there's a vibrant discussion and that ideas are being put forward.' But adds it's up to the UK Government to come up with proposals which the EU will then analyse. politico.eu/article/expert…
