Suspending Parliament is an anti-democratic outrage. It should be fought tooth and nail by all those who truly support our ancient democracy bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…
This brings shame on our democratic politics. Suspending Parliament purely to ram through a no deal Brexit which has no majority in Parliament by a Prime Minister who was installed by a few thousand Tory members.
I wouldn't rely on the Queen, who is unlikely to refuse to do this. However, I do trust the two key institutions which, along with the (now rogue) executive uphold our democracy: Parliament and the courts.

@GoodLawProject And as for "this is bog standard", it's what new governments do etc. - everyone knows that is transparent rubbish. The target of this move is *purely* attempts to prevent no deal. The courts and MPs will see through this in an instant.

I agree. Choices now should be deal, no deal or revoke. Extension would lead us to same place in 6 months, and I don’t buy the argument that rolling the dice with a GE will somehow create environment for a deal. Leave has had 3 years to arrange the promised orderly exit. Enough.
Labour’s calls for a general election are about getting into power, not Brexit, and they should be seen for what they are. I don’t blame Labour, fair that they want to be elected, but there is no reason to believe GE would lead to a Brexit solution. So deal, no deal or revoke
I would prefer a Second Referendum to no deal or deal but I don’t think it’s necessary really - the impetus was on the Leave proponents to achieve a deal which could pass through Parliament. 3 years is ample time to conclude it hasn’t worked and revoke.

One thing which I don't understand is how Jonathan Sumption can be described as a "former" Supreme Court Justice when he can (and does?) still sit on cases as part of the Court's Supplementary Panel supremecourt.uk/about/suppleme…
He's no longer full time or formally a "Justice" but I think most people would think that someone who judges some cases in the Supreme Court is still a judge of the Supreme Court, albeit a part time one
I was a bit annoyed at the Reith Lecture I attended that they kept referring to him as a former Justice. These distinctions are important

Who told the BBC? (I notice that John Redwood seemed pleased to see Rogers go.) On 3 January 2017, Rogers resigned. Was he forced? What on earth had Rogers done? He had told Ministers, CONFIDENTIALLY, that a UK-EU trade deal might take 10 years to materialise.(Btw, he was right.)
Ministers insisted a deal could be done within 2 years. Well, they certainly got that wrong! Nicholas MacPherson, Civil Servant Mandarin, now a Crossbench Peer, said at the time [Rogers'] departure marked a "wilful" and "total destruction" of EU expertise within Whitehall.
