A slightly askance perspective on today's prorogation news. Parliamentary time to enable a new deal with the EU (still Johnson's stated ambition) to pass through Parliament before Oct 31 has been casually tossed aside. 1/4
Parliamentary time to enable no deal to be managed (and a new trading framework to replace the single market to be prepared) has been casually tossed aside. 2/4
It is difficult to avoid the thought that Johnson may not be seeking either a deal or no deal before Oct 31. This is, it seems to me, more about creating an election narrative, pitting Johnson and 'the people' against the remainer Parliament and establishment. 3/4
