..standing with four arms and normally holds one or several items in his hands
He is the Lord of ganas (personal attendants of Siva), the master,the leader, the protector, and the companion among others to the ganas. He is the creator of obstacles and therefore called Vinayaka..
He is revered with several names like Gajanana (elephant faced), Lambodara (potbellied), Ekadanta (one-tusked), Vinayaka (leader of
obstacles), Vighnesvara (lord of obstacles),
Vighnakarta (creator of obstacles), and
Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles).
...In the Puranas, Ganesh is linked with Siva, his
wife Parvati and his son Skanda. He was created by goddess Parvati and is popular not only in India but also across a large part of Asia. Although there are different accounts of his birth...
...the most popular legend is that Ganesh was created by Parvati
from the impurities of her body and was appointed by Parvati as her gatekeeper. While Parvati was taking a bath, Siva was stopped by Ganesh from entering her apartment,This led to a battle where Siva eventually...
...beheaded Ganesh later replaced it with the head of an elephant.
He is believed to have two wives, Riddhi and Siddhi, and two sons, Subh and Labh. However he is represented and worshipped as a single god but at times during festivals like deepavali, along with Lakshmi...
Ganesh mythology has flourished since the 7thC.A.D. through Puranic texts.Numerous stories make Ganesh one of d more popular deities of the entire Hindu pantheon in India.Initially a minor god,Ganesh was added tothe hierarchyof major divinities inLate Guptaperiod in the 6th c.A.D
He gained importance in a relatively short period with his cult coming into being in the ninth century A.D. The cult of Ganesh worships him as a God who can help individuals to overcome impediments and succeed in life.
@MedhaviGandhi @punarutthana @IndiaArtHistory @ImsomethingnU @arpita_pedia @kamlesm His transformation from a
malevolent Vinayaka (creator of obstacles) into the benevolent Ganesh (remover of obstacles) was probably the result of a top-down patronage by elites that gradually spread to the commoners

@MedhaviGandhi @punarutthana @IndiaArtHistory @ImsomethingnU @arpita_pedia @kamlesm @LostTemple7 @Go_Movie_Mango @DharmikSonal Vighnaharta”, that’s the name we get in our mind when we think about Lord Ganesha, vighna means obstacle and harta means remover. Ganesha has been referenced as the obstacle remover in our veds (ancient scripts of Hindus) it has been stated that if you pray ...
to lord Ganesha for something then he will remove all your obstacles and help you with the completion of the task.

The sole purpose of ganesha festival organized by Bal Gangadhar tilak was to bring unity between the people during the British rule and it also served the purpose of meeting point for the people who was a not allowed during that the British rule..
@TIinExile @IndiaArtHistory
@TIinExile @IndiaArtHistory Years after years the festival gained lime light and people started making alterations to the festivals.The basic charm of the festival started to fade away with time. What was supposed to be the reason for unity started to become the reason for the clash between people.#Ganesha
@TIinExile @IndiaArtHistory @MedhaviGandhi @punarutthana @arpita_pedia @DharmikSonal @Go_Movie_Mango @iamsonalibendre Many people get into fights during these 11 days long festival because they have been drunk with the booze that has been consumed from the Chanda(“contribution”) that has been taken from people in the name of ganesha puja.
The people these days have made it a business of these festival. I don't intend to hurt the religious beliefs of anyone but I have watched people waste lakhs and lakhs of money in these festival.
I am Not An atheist but in the same time I am not blind ,in my opinion, I think instead of wasting extra money on the procession and all the useless things that are done during the festival the money should be put in some good use.
It should be donated to the some philanthropic use and made sure that some one’s hunger is satisfied, someone gets to wear clothes to cover their body or someone is educated using that money
The Ganesha festival these days has become just a namesake for people to show each other who is better, people try to compete each other in the means of the idol in the means of the procession that they take out and in the means of offerings they make in the name of the god.
What’s the use of such waste of money if it will only be used for something that is not useful to the society or to the humanity. Not only this the idols that are created are made of Plaster of Paris (POP) and the colours that are used are made of many harmful chemicals .
When these idols are immersed in river water they harm the water ecosystem and they affect the marine life in such a way that they get killed due to the negative reactions of the chemicals and the POP, so long story short you are killing those innocent creatures @iamsonalibendre
@iamsonalibendre @punarutthana @MedhaviGandhi @IndiaArtHistory @arpita_pedia @DharmikSonal @Go_Movie_Mango which has nothing to do with your festival and in fact you are doing a great sin in that process.And in addition to all that sometimes the idols which are not immersed properly will be laying in the mud bed of the river and will stay there until god knows when.
And reminding the proverb" Charity begins at home" , We and our society members has opted for Organic Ganesha Idol and Organic harmless colours for aagman as well as visarjan.
Though it's good to see start of a change around me as well as some other places too,it's long way to go still

My only humble request is to celebrate this festival make sure that you don’t spend unnecessary money instead make it a good use and bring smile on someone’s face, ..
use mud for idols and also help to save the nature

I'm not against of belief and rituals of any communities or Religion

Ganpati bappa morya..!!!
