The argument against impeaching Kavanaugh strikes me as very similar to the argument against impeaching Trump. "If the Senate won't convict, why bother?"
But it's not at all clear to me that, say, a series of 2022 House hearings on Kavanaugh's alleged sexual assaults, financial misdeeds, and perjuries, culminating in an impeachment vote and Senate trial, would be a political boon for the GOP.
The Republicans pushed Kavanaugh through because they knew that time and attention were working against them—if they thought the allegations against him were harming the Dems without imperiling GOP votes to confirm, they would have let them drag on.
And hell, who knows? It's possible that what came out of the hearings would be so ugly that Kavanaugh would face pressure to resign. Unlikely—maybe wildly unlikely—but stranger things have happened.
Kavanaugh isn't going to be impeached before 2020—giving Trump a do-over on the nomination makes no sense. But after, if Dems take the WH? It'd be the right thing to do, and I think it might make political sense as well.
