Another thread on the continuing gap in substance on Brexit talks
This is particularly important. Given the sheer volume of regulations in all developed countries, the UK approach is mostly unrealistic, to develop a solution regulation by regulation. That was the original EU single market approach as well - didn't work
But equally the EU approach - guarantee of alignment and then work out how to remove it - is as opponents of the backstop say rather sweeping and probably difficult to change. I can sort of see a compromise zone - but not sure current UK gov hasn't ruled it out already
