Prorogation q spectacular own goal
- cost govt its majority
- it catalysed Extension Act
- was unlawful

The theory this will all help in an election is *possible* but that election now follows A50 extension, or a Brexit deal. Maybe a PM resignation next month.
Every big call made by Downing Street has been a major miscalculation of how others would act, destroying 31/10 plan

- did not expect MPs to still rebel when threatened.
- did not expect opposition to pass on October election.
- did not expect prorogation to be struck down.
No 10 will dismiss those as "SW1" views at odds with the country.

But a government is not a referendum campaign. Can not govern if can't read SW1 or maintain control & confidence at Westminster.

So can never make Oct 31 pitch to the country without extension/resignation first
If Johnson rides out the immediate storm around the unlawful Prorogation, he would then face the "Boris trilemma" on 19th October
