Let’s respond to a ridiculous story in an informed manner. How are private member bills drafted and why is “drafting help” from the EU a rather silly notion. (Short thread)
Not every MP is a master draftsperson. Which is why parliament has systems in place. This is from the House of Lords guidance. You receive guidance and assistance. parliament.uk/documents/publ…
EU legislation is different. You have regulations. You have directives. You have a different style of drafting. So what’s the claim here: MPs rejected the available help by people experienced in drafting UK legislation and instead turned to people with no such experience. Great.
