Austrian newspaper @derStandardat has some interesting data on voter motivations by party. #Thread #Austrianelections derstandard.at/story/20001091…
1.Although less prominently as in 2017, ÖVP is still very much the Kurz Party. Only party where leader is main reason for vote. Extremely strong mandate for Kurz, who can by and large do whatever he wants.
2. SPÖ only has its traditional base left. No inspiring leader, no campaign themes, no new blood. It barely profits from opposition to failed right-wing government.
3. Logically, for party that lost (see SPÖ), FPÖ mainly has true believers left. Migration played less tole in campaign and (therefore) vote. Notably, Hofer is already almost as important as Strache, who had built personal cult over years.
4. Greens were first and foremost benefactors of campaign and media focus on environment. Thank you @GretaThunberg 😉

Lack of reference to party or leader could indicate shallow support though, which could be lost when environment loses spotlight.
5. NEOS are growing slowly but steadily, which means that profile doesn't change too much. Most voters are true supporters. Profit bit from newness and lack of governing experience (and therefore scandals).
6. Most interesting graph is this one. FPÖ voters are by far most satisfied with previous government (50% very satisfied, 42% rather satisfied). Will make it hard for FPÖ leaders to stay out of new government with ÖVP, if Kurz offers it. #nrw19
