Post independence India is the greatest, most successful social experiment in the history of humankind. And I say this very seriously. (1/n)
There hasn't been a single (not one) place in the world, at any point of time in history, where people with this kind of diversity (religion, culture, ethnicity, food habits, languages) have lived together peacefully (for most part). (2/n)
And the crazier part is we are still 3rd world, regressive and religious in large parts. Still we made it work, for 70 years. People don't appreciate how fucking impressive that is. This is not normal, this is not at all normal human behavior. (3/n)
A large credit of course goes to Nehru, Ambedkar, Gandhi and many others who laid roots of this incredible experiment. (4/n)
Now we are in the process of losing that legacy. We are losing pride in what made us truly special (our secularism, unity in diversity, non alignment) and taking pride in bullshit. Statues, agressive feku nationalism, howdy Modi events and showing minorities their place. (5/n)
We need to decide where we want to stand. Especially Hindus. A lot of credit for this success over so many decades goes to us Hindus (as a dominant majority). And if we fail now (and we are failing now), the guilt/blame will also be on us.
And a lot of credit also goes to minorities for embracing the idea of India and helping make it strong. Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, Parsis, everyone. (n/n)
