Thought -- and read both tweets in the thread: climate folk are far, far ahead on grid work than they are on tailpipe work with the public. Short thread.
tell the public the electricity produced in the US has to be 100 percent clean by 2050, and they nod and say yeah, sure, or they say "you mean 2030!"

tell the public the cars they drive must be 100 percent clean by 2030, and they Do. Not. Get. It.
Ban your coal fired plant? most of 'em don't care.

Ban your F-150? AAAACKKK. Resistance. Oh hell no. Molon labe. All that.
And this is true even as climate folk are not talking about banning ICE (gas powered) cars. We're talking about replacing them with something much better.
And along comes Bernie Sanders with a very aggressive climate plan focused on tailpipe emissions (as @yayitsrob notes) and 33 percent of Americans are dead set opposed to the idea of free money to replace their ICE cars. Only 18 percent strongly support.
@yayitsrob People. Do it. Make your next car an EV. Not only are they cleaner but they're also awesome. Peppier, faster, funner.
@yayitsrob I tell my Cal friends that we are solving the electric grid (thx @kdeleon and #sb100!), slowly, unevenly, with hiccups, but we ARE solving it... but we have no clue about cars.
@yayitsrob @kdeleon and the think tanks agree with me, which is nice. Here's @CalMatters on how the state must solve transportation to meet climate goals bit.ly/2ns5NnM
and, non-Cal folk, I'm talking to you too. We showed the way to 100 percent clean electricity. You will follow us. (Trust me, you will.)

But we have no clue about tailpipe emissions beyond abolishing ICE cars. (we had a bill 2x, it died 2x)
I don't have a solid answer on why there has been this gap between electricity work and tailpipe work. (EPA nerds: stationary sources vs mobile sources)
we don't have an easy substitute for gas yet (ethanol/ biofuels are not good ideas for many, many reasons). I think the answer is #electrifyeverything, expect cultural resistance.
hey @springsteen can you write lots of cool songs about Mary in a very quiet EV truck where the only sound is NOT the engine roaring, but her sighing?
I'm rambling a bit. Time to go forth and change the world. Starting with tailpipe emissions. Thread, end.
