Here's a lesson for corporate change. (You may apply the principle to other institutions.) The politics of work is as equally important as the quality of work.
People run systems. If you cannot win, negotiate with, threathen or convince people to your cause, then as a reformer, this is what will happen.
You will impact some people directly and will even develop great policies. But, you won't change the system. At some point, your energy will be depleted; you will leave and then the status quo will continue.
If you are not emotionally or culturally intelligent, your most important activity as a leader will be to train yourself and/or to partner with someone who is and then delegate authority to him/her.
