The last 24 hours, Bitcoin Twitter has been in a wide ranging debate about 1) the relative importance of censorship resistance, sound money and other attributes; 2) what impact institutionalization has on the underlying cypherpunk values at root
The last 24 hours, Bitcoin Twitter has been in a wide ranging debate about 1) the relative importance of censorship resistance, sound money and other attributes; 2) what impact institutionalization has on the underlying cypherpunk values at root
My takes:
1. I don't understand why there would be a debate about censorship resistance vs. sound money principles. They're not opposing forces.
2. There *IS* an inherent tension in the alliance of an existing financial power structure and this new system.

Speaking further to this inherent tension: there is an inevitable deal with the devil for everyone.
Financial institutions getting into bitcoin are getting involved with a system that threatens the old system that has given them power and wealth; BTC advocates risk co-option

At the same time, that inherent tension doesn't mean that these forces can't co-exist. I tend to think that it is strategic to align with financial interest, as the threat to power of government power is even stronger and citizens + business vs gov is more likely to win.
Last note...this shit was a way more productive use of our debate-y energy than validating the attention business model of some particular folks by endlessly chattering about who was invited to speak at what conference. Good job team.
