2/...with Remain on the ballot. That’s something many of us would have given our right arm for last year.
2. The Kyle/Wilson amendment must now be whipped by @UKLabour inside parliament should any deal now come before parliament.
3/Any argument that @UKLabour MPs could now vote for a Johnson deal have been blown out of the water. There is now NO excuse to do so with this policy, whatsoever. That threat needs to be put to bed.

1. Lots of people asking how the @UKLabour whipping system in Parliament works. So here goes..

Whipping:
There are three levels of whip and they have two functions - attendance and vote direction.
2. One line whip:This is the weakest of the three. It implies you don’t have to be on the parliamentary estate. If there are votes you are briefed which way the front bench is directing the PLP to vote.But the fact attendance is optional, it’s not considered a critical vote.
3. Nonetheless technically it’s still a disciplinary matter to break the whip. By imposing a one line whip on a controversial issue it could be claimed you are in effect giving tacit sanction to abstain/avoid the vote without recrimination.

Yes we have James. And as a country we’re all the better for it. But it’s your inability to see the whole picture that worries me. We didn’t just ‘adopt’ other cultures. We actively raped, pillaged, enslaved and destroyed some of them. That’s part of our ‘island story’ as well 1/
When you genuinely get that you then see a pattern emerge and one @DawnButlerBrent was pointing out. A trend that hasn’t stopped since slavery: predominantly white people continuing to profit from black culture (see Elvis, Vanilla Ice, Taylor Swift Etc) 2/

Basically, the amount of electricity generated from fossil fuels in the UK keeps falling…

…and that's primarily down to rising output from renewables (but demand falling too, v important)

THREAD| Draft of the #Climate Change Act, presented by (@bmu) this week: The proposal is a framework law, featuring elements from international acts, e.g. from UK (@theCCCuk). In contrast to the German Climate Action Plan 2050, it will be legally binding. #Klimaschutzgesetz
2| The framework law includes emission reduction targets, defines CO2 budgets for each sector, and clarifies responsibilities, as well as review, transparency & sanctioning mechanisms. Implementation measures for each sector will be detailled in 2030 programmes, due in Mar 2019.
3| Progress will be supported by an independent advisory group of 7 experts. Focus is on reaching the 2030 CO2 reduction targets, but the draft works towards at least 95% reduction by 2050. The remaining 5% to reach #netzero could be reached through compensation policies.

Just returned from Bangkok, where nations made little progress towards finalising the Paris agreement on climate change that aims to limit global temperature rises over the next 80 years.

It was my first @UN #climate change rodeo and there were a few things I wasn't aware of
Under Paris, countries agreed to a fairly detailed set of promises to keep global temperature rises under 2C by 2100.

It was the first time all nations - both developed and developing economies - signed up to the same set of climate rules. But they weren't binding
Parties gave themselves in effect 3 years to come up with a text agreed by everyone, ratified, and translated into national law on a state-by-state basis. The idea is the accord isn't legally binding, but the rulebook it provides could be on a national level
