[Thread] 1/ Have an update on this thread. I managed to download around 1,700 comments of the total 17,000 or so that people posted on this 'suspicious' FB post by Boris Johnson. I say 'suspicious' because people noted how many identical comments there were saying things
/ like 'brilliant boris', 'excellent boris' and 'supporting boris'. Myke above noted that it appeared to begin with people posting Brilliant Boris, and then this changed to 'Support Boris 100%'. I grouped the comments by keywords. 39% of the comments contained the word 'support'
/ or 'supporting'. 20% contained the word 'brilliant', while 10% contained the term "100%" (as in "supporting Boris 100%). Funnily enough, 9% included the term 'bot', as people are clearly viewing this activity with suspicion. 6% also contain 'WTO'. I then arranged the groups of
/ comments by time sequence, to see if the messages appeared random or not. What I found was interesting. WTO comments are stacked earlier on in the thread, as are 'brilliant boris' messages. Then 'support boris' messages became more popular. There it seems Myke's original
/ impression was correct. Why this is the case is not certain. If this is some sort of co-ordinated influence activity, it could be an aspect of coding, if it's organic, people could be following the previous most influential post which naturally changes the dynamics.
/ Is this bot activity? Well 10% of commenters said yes! Seriously though, it's hard to know. I found at least one post that was by an account that had a mutual friend. The mutual friend said the account was real. But what was just one. It is also possible that if this activity
/ is somehow automated, Boris fans have signed up to a service or an app that automatically likes Boris Johnson posts on FB. I am sure this is possible, although I do not know what the mechanism if. It's real behavior, then it's disturbingly robotic, pointing to a lot of
/ pro-Boris sheeple with a limited vocabulary, but a high amount of exuberance. Also I asked the service why I was only getting 10% of posts back when I attempted to download them. They think that many of the posts have been marked as spam - suggesting, if true, that even
/ facebook thinks a lot of the comments are spam. On a light note, 0.4% of the comments contained the term "cock womble".
/ There's also multiple examples of this > Dunno if it's people having a laugh or genuine glitches in the programming that expose bots at work... Odd though
