1/ Dear Mr. @BillGates

We, the several social segments and groups in the USA and other nations who are committed to defending democracy were disappointed with your latest declarations concerning the USA 2020 elections.

2/ Not so long ago you wisely pointed out the danger of an unhinged, uneducated and unintelligent president "assisted" by the least educated and prepared first rank in the USA Executive.

3/ I am sure you have some of the brightest economic minds in your social circle and some even working for you. At this point, I would assume you understand that a mature market economy doesn't behave like a "baby" one during primitive accumulation of capital.
4/ I would like to think that understanding why corporate regulation and fiscal reform are urgent in the USA. Either they are done or this massive uncontrolled economy will commit suicide.
5/ You see, Mr. Gates, you are a smart man and the CEO of a huge corporation. But Microsoft is not you. And even you realized you needed a competitor back in the game, paid for it and supported it: you know complete monopoly is suicidal.
6/ The regulatory measures being planned by Democratic candidates (none of which is a socialist, believe me: I know about these things being a Brazilian who fought a dictatorship) are not meant to harm companies.
7/ These people are not stupid: they (we) know that we need companies like yours to generate jobs and re-kindle an economy that is plunging into recession in a few months. Nobody would consider destroying a healthy corporations.
8/ We actually need to protect it from suicide (as mentioned). Microsoft will not suffer, I'm sure. Your taxes won't change your lifestyle. As a private citizen, even if you paid 95% taxes on income, you'd still be rich enough to have an amazing life.
9/ Beyond that, it's "money fetish": there is nothing you won't be able to do if you pay substantially more taxes in the USA. Moreover, companies like yours will have time to adjust.
10/ So instead of pointing your finger towards darkness and very probably catastrophe, with the Trump ignorant and science-hating mob being re-elected, why don't you join us in the pursuit of a healthy democratic society?
11/ "Social justice" won't hurt your business. Instead, it will create more customers.
If you accept this invitation, maybe you can help persuade other corporate CEOs to follow you. After all, you are relatively young and you have kids.
12/ Trump doesn't care about the future of the Earth: he won't be around and he is neurologically incapable of being concerned for anyone, not even his children. But you are, I'm sure.
13/ Maybe you can find other corporate CEOs who would like to think that their grandchildren will live, love and work in a world that is hospitable to our species. That's not the course we're on now.
14/ In order for your grand-grand-children to have a chance, you can't go on record saying it's ok to vote for a completely irresponsible and criminal political group.
15/ Please consider this invitation.

Yours, in logic,

Marilia Coutinho, Ph.D.
