I'm told the cyber attack on Labour was a DDOS attack. Digital vandalism not a "sophisticated" surgical attack
I understand this has not been recorded as a Category 6 attack by NCSC, the lowest level of incident the cybersecurity services respond to
The emails from security PRs are a DDOS attack on my inbox
Oh great, I see we're having a debate about whether Labour overreacted. I'm not sure this attack deserved to be called sophisticated, but a cyber attack on a political party during an election deserves to taken seriously - just as Labour did. Good to see
Confirmed from a Labour source: the DDOS attack came from "a botnet with IPs on every continent."

Adds: "We use Cloudflare which soaked up the large majority of the traffic, but the DDOS-protection measures did have some knock-on effects on traffic between systems."
If you're wondering about botnets and what they can do, this wonderful piece on Mirai is a good place to start wired.com/story/mirai-bo…
On that NCSC classification, which I see is being used to imply this wasn't a serious attack

As I've written before, NCSC only cover the tiniest tip of a massive iceberg. Just because they don't classify it as Category 6 doesn't mean it wasn't serious
