1. Fwiw, I get the sense that the Democrat House leadership has decided it's only going to go through the motions of impeaching Trump. Bread and circuses for the House Democrat impeachment supporters and political messaging for the base.
2. The Democrat House leadership believes there will be no conviction in the GOP-majority Senate (likely true!), so the Democrat House leadership isn't working to actually impeach Trump, but political message making while Trump's Ukraine extortion is a front page topic.
3. The seriousness of the likely Trump impeachment charges for Trump's Ukraine extortion pale in comparison to Trump's criminality contained in the Mueller report. Trump's wholesale obstruction of justice including firing both the FBI Director and a recused Attorney General.
4. I understand impeaching Trump for his crimes from the Mueller report would have been a harder lift. Not just because AG Barr's cover-up, but also because of the failure of Team Mueller to challenge the DOJ/OLC's "conventional wisdom" regarding charging a sitting president.
5. That's why I get the sense the current Trump impeachment effort is more about the political expediency of the moment and political messaging than it is about actually impeaching Trump.
6. Idk whether it's House Democrat leadership's idea of "not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good", but it smacks more of PR to me than an actual serious effort to undertake their solemn responsibility to, as @SpeakerPelosi's clumsily hash-tagged it, #DefendOurDemocracy.
