There you go, as I said the other day, it's worth waiting to see what happens with USMCA. 12 year monopoly clauses on Biologics are much less likely to come into the UK deal, so now we wait to see what remans.

But...
Having originally signed USMCA over a year ago, Trump is also under pressure to get this done before the next presidential election. These trade deal provisions lock the US into a policy that will lead to more expensive prices for their consumers too.
So there is political gain in dropping them, but also political loss because the Pharma lobbying companies aren't going to be happy going into the election, and this will unquestionably come up.
It's impossible to say, therefore, they won't be proposed in a US-UK trade deal, but having capitulated once, it is a lot less likely we'll see the US walk away if we don't agree the 12 year protections on Biologics that they had almost certainly planned to put on the table.
That's not the end of the story though, because it doesn't mean they won't want to export something closer to their own Pharma regulation as they have before these clauses existed.
But it does mean that there could be flexibility for the UK that, to be honest, there was no evidence of a few days ago at a time when the Conservative party seemed to be implying they could have their cake and eat it.
This is, indeed a 'SHOCK' and a capitulation on a Republican priority, but It's also potentially good news for a future US/UK trade deal.
