According to a poll conducted by Fox News, despite virtually every Republican elected official shouting opposition to it at the top of their lungs, 50% of the voting population wants Trump removed from office by the Senate. foxnews.com/politics/fox-n…
That approximate level of support for removal by the Senate has been there for a few months. Devin Nunes’, Jim Jordan’s, Elise Stefanik’s, Lindsey Graham’s, and Doug Collins’ antics haven’t eroded it, nor has a slight improvement in Trump’s job approval with the same cohort.
This stable support for removal is often reported as ‘Ds have failed to move the needle.’ But another way to look at it is the Ds have moved it much farther than the GOP ever did in 1998. On the eve of Clinton’s impeachment trial, support for removal stood at 31%, w 68% against.
Seen this way, the needle is already firmly in the red, and any break in the monolithic Republican lines would be likely to have a crushing impact.

If there’s any substance to all those reports of anonymous GOP electeds wishing to be rid of Trump, their opportunity is clear.
