This piece is wholly uncritical of Perez with not one voice interviewed about his tenure, which is frankly astonishing. Not one word about how he had pledged to be DNC chair full time and is not. But it is revealed that Biden pushed hard for his being chair.
This long piece finds time to do a negative tangent on Pete Buttigieg, who it also states was the only one running for chair who raised money. But there is not a single sentence about the DNC being flat broke since Hillary Clinton stopped raising money for them.
Perez basically handwaves the diversity issue, which is frankly bizarre given that he is the first Latinx DNC chair. He is unconcerned that only one of the FIVE remaining POC on the race, Yang, will be on stage this week. No comment on the late entry of Bloomberg, either.
Perez says he is out after this term. Which is good. But there needs to be revamping of the DNC AND Democrats have to commit to making chair a full-time, fully paid position--something Perez should have said here and didn't. Nice guy, poor leader, utterly pointless reporting.
Oh and zero mention of the issue I have been writing about for 20 years: the two white states that open voting skewing the race. Castro has made a big issue of this in 2019 and THAT wasn't in this piece, either. Nor voter suppression or election tampering. Just pointless puffery.
