I usually write something in a long format over the holidays. Sometimes it's a book. Maybe this time I will write about wireless communications from spaaaaace. Hint: trade-offs abound!

There's a lot to write about. Radio frequencies, antennas, satellites, rocket launches, regulation, finance, business models, intersatellite links, semiconductors, and more. It's easier to list tech businesses that aren't involved than are these days.

SpaceX said the Starlink orbit modifications could cut the number launches necessary by up to 50%. Under the revised plans, each of the 72 orbital rings will have 22 satellites instead of 66. A Falcon 9 launch can now populate approximately three rings. spacenews.com/spacex-gets-ok…

Pick one business for your child to extensively research. Teach them that a share of stock is a partial interest in an actual business and that expected long-term cash flows, discounted by the cost of capital, determine stock prices. Watch Munger say this:

Teach the child a sound investing process. Suggest that they read Michael Mauboussin's books. Also read what Howard Marks and Jason Zweig write.
Help the child avoid the mistake of assuming that good outcomes are the result of a good process and that bad outcomes imply a bad process. Teach them that the best long-term performers in any probabilistic field, like investing, focus on process over outcome. Use checklists:

Brexit is difficult because it asks UK politicians to trade off economic interests against national sovereignty.

Michel Barnier's famous "Stairway to Brexit" slide illustrates the point.

The further the UK goes, the freer Parliament is...but at an increasingly higher price.
A remarkable feature of the last few weeks of indicative votes and cross-party negotiations is how difficult UK politicians have found it to make those trade-offs *even in the abstract*

We haven't even got to concrete decisions which would cost real constituents their real jobs!
