THREAD: I’m voting for @sunrisemvmt to endorse @BernieSanders. Here’s why I think you should too.
Bernie is the only candidate who has been speaking about the urgent need to combat climate change and transition to 100% clean energy for literally decades.
Bernie has actively called for the criminal prosecution of oil and gas companies just like the tobacco companies in the 1980s for conspiracy to defraud the planet. conspiracy to defraud the planet. Exxon knew as early as 1980 that greenhouse gas emissions were warming the planet.
There’s a reason @350action, @Greenpeace and @foodandwater unanimously rate Bernie’s climate plan the most aggressive and expansive of any 2020 presidential candidate.
Bernie’s #GreenNewDeal calls for $16.3 trillion in federal spending over 15 years — the sort of investment necessary if we are going to half greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
One key area of difference between Bernie and Warren is the issue of democratizing electricity generation.

That might seem like a small difference, but in a zero emissions economy green electricity will be the single most important power source.
We view healthcare and education as public goods - that is, things that investors shouldn’t be making profits off of. Their human rights.

Energy should be viewed the same way (ie, Investors should not be making money heating houses).
Nationalizing clean energy generation is the only way we are going to meet the deadlines set out in the most recent IPCC report and 2018 National Climate Assessment.
Bernie is also the candidate most clearly drawing a link between the climate crisis to affordable housing.

In November Bernie introduced a bill titled “The Green New Deal for Public Housing Act.” It would commit $180 billion over 10 years to affordable housing.
That’s important for a number of reasons, but most pointedly because frontline communities often experience the impacts of climate change most acutely, but paradoxically have the least (financial) capacity to adapt.
To be clear Senator Warren is a great candidate - one I will happily vote for if she wins the nomination - but Bernie is the only candidate that is building a MOVEMENT.
Bernie not simply a candidate running for office. Like Barry Goldwater fundamentally reshaped American politics in the 1960s, Bernie He is inspiring tens of millions of people across the country to get out and organize, volunteer, and run for office.
Electing Bernie Sanders would be a watershed moment that far outlasted his presidency. It would irrevocably set this county on course towards a fairer, more equitable and inclusive society for decades to come.
