What’s the point, California?
This may be seen as conspiracy theory minded, but the question has been rolling around in my head unanswered for the past several years.
What, really, would be the point of driving every tax paying citizen out of a state lousy with entitlements?
California passed the precipice years ago, where over 50% of the population was not paying taxes and were living on government entitlements.
The rate of homelessness increased by more in California last year than the REST OF THE NATION.
California is going to lose Congressional seats because so many have fled the states insane taxes (income, gas, water, sales, etc).
And on 1/1/2020 a new law went into effect that will fine people $1,000/day for using more than 55gals of water per person.
For some perspective, that means you can’t do a load of laundry and take a shower on the same day.
Now, we should clarify - the majority of California won’t be hit with these fines.
As with everything else, they will most likely be levied only on the people here who actually...
Work and pay taxes.
You know - the ones who pay for Govs Moonbeam (Brown) and Nancy’s Nephew’s (Newsom/Pelosi) insane leftist policies.
It would take willful ignorance to not see this as the final nail in the coffin for a plethora of middle class taxpayers in CA to move.
I’ve said for at least a decade that soon, CA will be populated entirely by politicians (Dems, of course) and welfare cases.
These politicians aren’t stupid or crazy.
Okay, Mad Maxine and Nervous Nancy are surely both.
But it’s hard to see this many policies that destroy-
The ability of middle class taxpayers to save, invest and win the American Dream as a mistake or unintended consequences.
There are just far too many of them, each achieving the same goal.
California is great if you’re a politician who escapes taxes, a business owner who can-
Buy CA politicians to enact favorable legislation for your business, or a welfare recipient/low enough wage earner who doesn’t pay taxes (over 50% of the CA pop).
So what’s the point?
@realDonaldTrump has stated the federal funding will stop flowing to sanctuary states -
Which CA is, so they can’t be planning on the federal government to bail them out of the (obvious) results of their bad policies.
This new water tax may create a windfall for one or two months, but the resulting loss of tax revenue from everyone moving who has the wherewithal -
Will be disastrous.
So, what’s the point?
Really, I’m at a total loss here.
I understand the desire for a populace completely dependent on entitlements who are guaranteed to vote for their own prosperity.
But when the entire backbone of the tax base leaves because it’s become-
Too expensive and they feel they are attacked too often for being hard working and successful...there’s nothing left.
What’s the point, California?
