If U.S. officials believe the downing of the Ukrainian Int'l Airlines flight #PS752 was an "accident," why does the regime in #Iran continue denying the entire subject?

Accepting this as an "accident" would make it far easier for Tehran to wrap up the entire matter.
Me thinking:
The regime in #Iran can easily accept the "accident" scenario, prosecute a few low-ranking military officers & compensate the victims' families. Case closed.

Tehran can even claim a rogue military officer/unit shot down the #PS752.

Why continue denying?

The Ukrainian Int'ls Airlines flight #PS752 that crashed just outside of Tehran, #Iran, was struck by an anti-aircraft missile system, a Pentagon official, a senior U.S. intelligence official & an Iraqi intelligence official told Newsweek.
