1/6 THREAD re: @TheDemocrats primaries.

I would like to get behind @ewarren, but I think she, @BernieSanders, & @AOC need to seriously consider rebranding their platforms.

First, immediately purge the term "socialism" & replace w/ the term, #COMPASSIONATECAPITALISM
2/6

Second, sit down w/ a panel of bipartisan economists & seriously review any proposals that hinge on "free (healthcare, education, whatever etc.) for all."

Explain VERY CLEARLY how any plan would be paid for and how it wouldn't hurt the middle class. Convince us.
3/6

Re-emphasize that any tax increases will hinge on getting large companies & the 1% to pay their FAIR SHARE in taxes, highlighting how those like Trump or Amazon have not been doing so.

Get those tax returns!
4/6

Expose the fact that Trump is exploiting populism when in fact his policies are anything but.

It shouldn't be hard to make curbing corporate greed, vested interests, & undue political influence appealing to bipartisan voters.
5/6

Finally, instead of debating progressivism vs. centrism/electability as an either/or, make progressive policies have more centrist appeal.

Frame them in a way that will respond to the middle class concerns of blue collar workers & small business owners in "flyover country."
6/6 Stop trying to fire up "the base" & instead start trying to expand the base & move us away from hyperpartisan polarization.

1. I didn't say the Warren was using the S word, but she's promoting similar policies as those who are. So, I'm emphasizing that a strong rebranding across the board. Big mistake for the left to embrace the S word in my opinion.
2. The primary process is waaaay too long in the US. There shouldn't be a different strategy during primaries vs. general election. Start courting moderate voters now; don't pivot later. Like I said, work on making progressive policies appealing across the isle.
3. Stop complaining about Republican politicians. They're a lost cause. But what better time to start aggressively wooing Republican voters, showing them how GOP policies are harming them. Hammer this message in now, and hammer it often.
oops, aisle, not isle. though courting Hawaiian voters is always a good idea too.
