A final joint resolution is now ready for debate in the EU Parliament today and tomorrow on the CAA,which has been put forward by 560 of the parliament’s 751 MPs. Conservatives not part of this. Text says “CAA is discriminatory in nature and dangerously divisive” 1/n
Resolution “warns against the increasing nationalism which has resulted in the fuelling of religious intolerance and discrimination against Muslims; worried that the NRC may create a large-scale statelessness crisis and cause immense human suffering” 2/n
Resolution says “protests that broke out around India, particularly on university campuses, in response to the adoption of the CAA were met with a brutal crackdown by security forces” talks about UP in particular. 3/n
Indian officials have said the CAA is an internal matter and that the law was passed by India’s democratically elected parliament, denying its discriminatory, that it only seeks to fast track citizenship for persecuted minorities 4/n
