NEWS: Rep. Doug Collins is not expected to stay on as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee — opening up a coveted top slot on the powerful panel.

BUT he won't step down right away: he huddled w/ McCarthy today to discuss a timeframe.

the story: politico.com/news/2020/01/2…
McCarthy said he wants to ensure there is an ample transition period for Collins' staff, tho Steering Committee will meet next week to discuss further.

In the meantime.. the race to replace him is already on: JIM JORDAN, a top Trump ally, is planning to make a play for the spot.
If Jordan slides over to lead Judiciary, the top spot on the Oversight Committee will become available.

And Mark Meadows — another top Trump ally — could be a top contender.

That means Trump could have his fiercest allies leading the panels that are his 1st line of defense.
