1/4 "Smallest U.S. Firms Struggle to Find Workers," reports the WSJ. The narrative of the story is that there needs to be more immigration to fill those jobs. I don't know what the perfect level of immigration is but the portion of adult population in the US that is employed,
2/4 dropped during the Great Recession and it did not regain most of it. Meaning, there are millions of able-bodied adults in the US who just gave up on employment which can't be attributed to them being seniors. Now, if you are not willing to pay a normal wage, people won't
3/4 take the job that you offer. Furthermore, a family of 4 earning $32K a year in NY ends the year with more money/benefits than a family of 4 earning close to $60,000. As such, some people make the decision to stay home and have only one breadwinner because if both work and the
4/4 income pops to $60K, the family is worse off money-wise. So the fix to the lack of job takers is correcting the messed up tax/benefit system; not necessarily immigration.
