DOJ says in a new court filing that two top officials on Donald Trump's 2016 campaign - Steve Bannon and Rick Gates - thought they were getting "non-public" information about WikiLeaks' plans to dump emails, hacked by Russia, that were damaging to Hillary Clinton.
Posting a threatening meme of a federal judge is the kind of thing that can come back to haunt a person if that judge happens to one day decide on how to sentence that person. So DOJ is just pointing out that Roger Stone did that ....
... just reminding your honor that you also don't think the defendant is trustworthy ...
DOJ is recommending a sentence of between 7 1/4 and 9 years in federal prison for Roger Stone, which is what the federal sentencing guidelines call for.
DOJ says ex-Trump adviser Roger Stone should go to prison in part as "a reminder that our democratic processes can function only if those called to testify tell the truth."
DOJ: "Roger Stone obstructed Congress’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, lied under oath, and tampered with a witness. And when his crimes were revealed by the indictment in this case, he displayed contempt for this Court and the rule of law."
