@hannah_disch I’ve just been through and had a look at which might have been (at least in part) vaccine preventable...
Happy for input from more expert individuals!

Abortive and stillborn: got to be a quite few German measles in there, and due to diseases like flu.
1/
@hannah_disch Ague: no vaccine (yet!) for malaria, but other candidates for the causative agent could be things like flu; which we do vaccinate against.
Bit with a mad dog: definite win for #vaccines here!

@hannah_disch Bloody flux, scowring and flux: rotavirus very much a contender and also cholera!
Again, a win for #vaccines

@hannah_disch Cancer and Wolf: sounds a bit silly, the wolf bit. But actually this is because of how cancer was understood...

Wombs, Worms and Wolves: Constructing Cancer in Early Modern Englandacademic.oup.com

We now vaccinate against several cancers, thanks #HPV & also #HepB #vaccines
4/
@hannah_disch Chrisomes, and Infants: heartbreakingly this accounts for 2,268 of the deaths.
Chrisomes were babies who didn’t make it to a month old.

This heavy toll of infant dead has doubtless been lessened by #vaccines

@hannah_disch Consumption was the old name for TB, and we have the BCG #Vaccine. And research continues to improve this vaccine!

@hannah_disch Fever: killed 1,108
Many deaths from diseases recorded as fever in 1632 may well have been ones for which we now have effective #Vaccines

@hannah_disch Flocks, and small Pox: drawing a blank on “flocks”, flock disease would be unlikely to be included with smallpox?
BUT smallpox! NO ONE died of smallpox anywhere in the world last year. Nor has anyone since the 1970s.
We have eradicated this disease!
Yay! #vaccines

@hannah_disch Jawfaln: bit of a mystery one, but may well be tetanus.
Again, no one needs to suffer horribly and die of tetanus any longer.

It’s infuriating that this can happen:

@hannah_disch Kings Evil, also called scrofula: caused by tuberculosis!
Again, we have the BCG vaccine:

@hannah_disch Measles:
A HUGE global win here for #vaccines
The #Measles vaccine prevented an estimated 23.2 million deaths in the years 2000- 2018
The #MMR saved millions of lives.
#antivaxxers demonise it.
Measles cases have risen recently due to this.

@hannah_disch Plague: this might have been any of a number of diseases, again. But worth a shout out to the fact that we do have a plague vaccine!

This is one place where #VaccinesSaveLives amd potentially can save so many more!

@hannah_disch @M_R_F Tissick: yet another probable TB. One challenge for the list is exactly which diseases they’re referring to.
This list proved helpful, but I’m sure others have suggestion:
homeoint.org/cazalet/oldnam…
@hannah_disch @M_R_F I tried to be fair; I think #vaccines must have been able to put quite a dent in those numbers for several conditions...
#vaccines have transformed our lives and our world, very much for the better.
