Trump never stops proving that being a “Law and Order” Republican isn’t really about being tough on crime. It’s about using law enforcement to maintain a social order with rich, straight, abled, white Christian men at the top.
Refugees in cages and ”lock her up” chants might seem hypocritical coming from a corrupt, mobbed up con artist who cheated his way into the White House and pardons war criminals, but it’s really not. It’s consistent white male supremacy. The double standard is the whole point.
Law and Order politicians have a habit of being criminals, but that’s only hypocrisy if you don’t treat it like the dog whistle it is. Law and Order means selectively applying the law to maintain minority rule.
So when Bill Barr pushed for leniency for Roger Stone on the same day he blasted DAs for exactly that, that wasn’t exactly hypocrisy. He was being very consistent in defending minority rule. He just wasn’t being upfront about it.
I get why people call out the GOP for hypocrisy on these issues. It’s true in a sense, and the double standard fires us up.
But leaving it at hypocrisy lets them off the hook for their white male supremacy.
