Here's what the book is NOT about: trans adults - although I interviewed many, mainly because so much activism claims to speak in their name. The individuals were sober and lovely and one became a friend. But the book--and the contagion--have almost nothing to do with them. /2

IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE is about a contemporary hysteria -- teen girls' penchant for spreading & increasing their own pain. These girls are in genuine distress. But "gender dysphoria" or "being trans" is a cry to be taken seriously, not correct self-diagnosis. /3

I interviewed so many experts including public health researcher @LisaLittman, trans-identified teens, parents, public school teachers, activists, affirmative therapists, prominent "top surgery" surgeons, trans internet influencers, trans adults, desisters & detransitioners, /4

...radical feminists and doctors and therapists who believe the current approach evinces a terrible mistake, a medical system gone wrong. I conducted almost 200 interviews. I hope you'll give it a fair reading. Because teenage girls today are in a lot of pain. /5

Our society has turned its back on them. But holy Hell, they're in anguish. At unprecedented rates, they suffer anxiety & depression, they are cutting and starving themselves. Horribly lonely, they park for hours on the internet, imbibing all the wrong messages. /6

They need our help. And misdiagnosing their pain as "gender dysphoria," rushing to immediately provide every manner of puberty blocker, or cross-sex hormone, or surgery is probably not the right answer. But perhaps give the book a read and decide for yourself? /7
