There are two keys to understanding Moldovan politics and oligarchs.
A Moldovan oligarch is defined as a person who owns more than five woolen sweaters than can be worn under the (only) sport coat.
Moldovan politics are defined as a period of time between jail and more jail.
In all seriousness, however, you absolutely cannot get any more shady than Vladimir Plahotniuc. This is a dude from the poorest nation in Europe who was deemed too shady and corrupt even for Russia. He is too shady for the deepest of shades. He is more toxic than mercury.

That @amyklobuchar doesn't know the Mexican president's name should make her more relatable to her core constituency: ignorant white people from the Midwest who can't memorize foreign words like "enchilada" or "Macron" and only care about Murcan ones, like "pizza" and "Jet Li."
@amyklobuchar I don't follow Mexican politics at all, but from casually reading news in the past year, I remember that his name is Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and that he is supposed to be pretty lefty. I literally know nothing else and that is infinitely more than @amyklobuchar knows. America
@amyklobuchar In all fairness, I also find it kind of hard to memorize all the different permutations of names like Hayley (Hailee, Haleigh, Haley...) or Brendon (Brendan, Brandon, Braeden, Brayden). But there is NOTHING more American than utterly refusing to know ANYTHING foreign at all.
