The astonishing popularity of Trump and Sanders emanates from the devastation of the mortgage crisis. Bloomberg was mayor during Occupy Wall Street and oversaw its suffocation. Now he’s buying out the attention of the 99% to protect the 1%, his elite financialized customer base.
A plutocrat thinks he can solve the social decay that festers populism when he is the living embodiment of its root cause. Spending his obscene largesse on attacking Sanders (and Warren) instead of hammering on Trump’s corrupt and fascist autocracy could backfire spectacularly.
If we had taken Reagan’s (!!!) advice and shifted to an employee-owned cooperative economy instead of the winner-take-all economy we got, it’s doubtful that Trump, Sanders, or Bloomberg would have ended up in or so close to the White House.
