1. Every promise God makes to us is to be apprehended by faith. That’s the rule, you don’t fight it. And it’s partly because he’s invisible. #Illuminare

2. The first hurdle therefore is believing God exists. You can’t do that without faith. Faith is a primary apprehension technology. “For we come to God in faith knowing that he is real and that he rewards the faith of those who passionately seek him.” Hebrews 11:6. #Illuminare

3. But here’s the thing: time acts negatively on faith. Faith is degraded over time. The longer it takes to realize a promise from God the easier it is for time to degrade faith. It’s why faith requires constancy. #Illuminare

4. Sarah had to endure the passage of time. God promised her a child at the age of 65. She didn’t give birth until 90. For the miracle to happen she had to suspend commonsense and generate a new reality. #Illuminare

5. Faith ignores extant reality. Abraham and Sarah for example had to ignore medical facts. #Illuminare

6. Without our constancy time will turn a valid promise of God into a non-promise. But the promise of God is real, manifestation is what takes time. Time stretches out manifestation. #Illuminare

7. There are three factors involved in the fulfilment of God’s promise:
a. The methodology of fulfilment
b. The calendar of fulfilment
c. The process of fulfilment

8. A lack of appreciation of these three factors has robbed many people of fulfilment of God’s promise. The life of David provides perfect illustration of all three. #Illuminare

9. God had promised David he will rule Israel. As confirmation he anointed him. By what MEANS was this promise going to be fulfilled? God never said. No methodology of fulfilment was revealed. #Illuminare

10. WHEN exactly would this promise be fulfilled? God didn’t say either, so the calendar of fulfilment hung in the air. #Illuminare

11. And HOW was this promise going to be fulfilled? God didn’t say. The process of fulfilment was not revealed. Let’s just say God chose to keep things close to his divine chest. #Illuminare

12. A political consultant would of course have told David that for him to mount the throne he’d have to ferment a revolution. And for that to happen he would need propaganda. #Illuminare

13. To create the propaganda machinery he’ll need finance, meaning he has to go to financiers. He’ll need money to print leaflets, to set up a rebel radio station, pay social media influencers, form and finance pressure groups and NGOs... Revolution is not cheap. #Illuminare

14. Then he’ll have to raise an army. And he’s got to equip the army. He’ll probably need foreign backing for that, meaning he’ll have to turn to Israel’s nemesis, Philistia even though he killed Goliath their hero. #Illuminare

15. By the time he’s through putting all these things together he’d have been so compromised. It’s the picture of an African puppet installed by a foreign power... #Illuminare

16. To get the prize he’ll have to sign away mineral rights. And he’ll have to keep obeying his masters lest they overthrow him. #Illuminare

17. As per timing of fulfilment of God’s promise the average human of course wants immediacy. But chances are things won’t happen that fast. God always declares stuff in advance. Isaiah 48:3. #Illuminare

18. Part of the reason manifestation is delayed is because of our level of preparedness. To prepare us God often sends us to training school. This is why we seem to experience difficulties anytime God makes a big promise; though it must be said Satan also piles in. #Illuminare

19. Look at Moses. He was nowhere near ready for his calling. He was too immature. Of course his parents had sensed something about that calling but they couldn’t put their finger on it. #Illuminare

20. They just knew he was an unusual child. It’s why they went to extraordinary lengths to preserve him. Moses sensed it too. It’s why he killed the Egyptian slave labour supervisor. He wanted to ferment revolution. #Illuminare

21. But the Israelites saw him as a murderer, and a dangerous man. Exodus 2:14. Sensing the authorities knew about the murder he fled Egypt. At 40 the mission was terminated. Wrong approach. #Illuminare

22. For the mission to be restored the immaturity had to go, as well as the pride and know-it-all attitude. By the time Moses emerged from the wilderness 40 years later he had become the humblest man alive. Numbers 12:3. God used the wilderness to tame him. #Illuminare

23. As for David it took almost fifteen years from the day of promise to become king in Judah, and then seven extra years to become king over the united kingdom. That’s a total of twenty-two years! What did he learn during this period? He learned about leadership. #Illuminare

24. The Ziklag incident was one of many lessons on leadership. His private army was based in Ziklag. While they were away attempting to prove their loyalty to King Achish, Ziklag was raided by Amalekites. #Illuminare

25. The Amalekites carted off everything, including wives and children. They burnt the town to the ground. His men were so bitter they began to talk of stoning him. It didn’t matter David also lost his two wives to the raid. #Illuminare

26. David was in great danger. Leadership is not easy. 1 Samuel 30. But David found courage in God, asked for advice and recovered all. Leadership is lonely and it takes courage. #Illuminare

27. But what about the process of fulfilment of God’s promises? Again, let’s look at David. #Illuminare

28. In David’s permutation there were only so many ways in which Saul would be terminated. It was either God will strike him dead, or he will die of old age or die in battle. 1 Samuel 26:10. #Illuminare

29. David refused to murder Saul, and he had solid opportunity on two occasions - “Who can remain innocent after attacking the Lord’s anointed one” he said. He wasn’t going to mount the throne with blood on his hands. He wasn’t Macbeth. #Illuminare

30. He bluntly refused resort to self-help. Regicide was out. David would have been labelled king slayer a la Game of Thrones. #Illuminare

31. But because he didn’t slay King Saul he had moral authority to kill a guy who claimed to have done mercy killing on Saul. The guy was lying, but hey, you’re ensnared by the words of your mouth. He thought he was currying favour from David. #Illuminare

32. Not killing Saul also gave him moral authority to kill Recab and Baanah, the two army captains who murdered Saul’s heir, King Ishbosheth. It didn’t matter David would be a direct beneficiary of his death. #Illuminare

33. David just wanted God to work things out after the counsel of his own will. God doesn’t think the way we think or sort things out the way we do. Isaiah 55:8-9. #Illuminare

34. It took a very long process for David to become king. So many obstacles and battles. Betrayals along the way. And then there was that long war between the house of David and the house of Saul. #Illuminare

35. Abner the commander of Saul’s army backed Saul’s son, Ishbosheth. 2 Samuel 3:1. When Abner had a disagreement with Ishbosheth over Saul’s side chick he sought to switch sides. He felt insulted over a babe, felt unappreciated. #Illuminare

36. When he came over to negotiate the terms of the union Joab, David’s army commander murdered him in cold blood. He was avenging the death of his stubborn brother Asahel who was killed in battle by Abner. #Illuminare

37. What a clueless idiot Joab was! He threw the kingdom away just to avenge his brother. The whole thing was within David’s grasp. #Illuminare

38.David’s nephews were just too willful and obdurate. You can see David’s frustration when he said, “Even though I am the anointed king these two sons of Zeruiah – Joab and Abishai – are too strong for me to control.” 2 Samuel 3:38. Joab plotted to kill Abner with his brother.

39. David became tired after that incidence. Here’s something he had been chasing for decades and now two blockheads took it out of reach. He had to dramatically demonstrate he knew nothing about the plot to kill Abner. #Illuminare

40. At the end of the day David became king. The process of fulfilment of God’s promises winds through human affairs. It’s not as if God can’t do a miracle or do some exceptional stuff to fulfill his promise. #Illuminare

41. When God makes a promise to you, chances are frogs won’t multiply like they did in Egypt and rivers won’t turn to blood. Don’t expect the sea to part either. God actually considers those easy stuff. #Illuminare

42. The hard stuff is weaving the process of fulfilment of his promise through human history and interactions with all the unpredictability and complicatedness. It’s like writing insane code. #Illuminare

43. The most difficult thing therefore is making the supernatural look so natural, and that’s what God specializes in. It’s how a shepherd boy became one of the greatest kings in history. Come to think of it, it’s how an African became president in America. #Illuminare

44. Understand how God works. #Illuminare

45. If you’ll like to receive Jesus into your life please pray this prayer: “Father I acknowledge that I am a sinner, that Jesus died for me, that you raised him from the dead. Father please forgive me. I accept Jesus today as my Lord and my Saviour. Amen.” #Illuminare
