2020 is a major inflection point in American politics:
The Democratic Party is poised to become either a party of the people or a party of big money and GOP appeasement.
Which path do YOU choose?
Follow the facts & the money...
First, let's get something out of the way:
The GOP is a rightwing extremist party, a threat to democracy.
But that doesn't give Dem leaders a free pass. It's our DUTY to hold politicians accountable. Unthinking party loyalty is a path to tyranny...
If your overarching objective is to defeat Trump, let's see how we got here in the first place:
When Bush-Cheney launched a brutal war based on lies to open this century, most Dem leaders went right along — the same Dems in leadership roles today...
#NancyPelosi recently said she KNEW Bush was lying about the Iraq war that killed, maimed, and displaced millions. But she didn't think his war crimes were impeachable.
#BarackObama continued (and even EXPANDED) Bush's civil liberties violations...
Under Obama and Pelosi, America droned babies, conducted assassinations without due process, and engaged in indefinite detention.
#MichelleObama recently said she shared Bush's values.
Dem leaders have willingly rehabilitated a war criminal...
Did good things happen during the Obama years? Yes.
But bad things did too. Migrant kids were caged. Working people struggled while bankers were bailed out. The NRA maintained its death grip on gun policy. #MitchMcConnell easily stole a SCOTUS seat...
Under Obama and Pelosi, the Democratic Party lost ground across the country. The party was hollowed out.
But there was no change of leadership.
The same Dems kept running the show, raking in millions in corporate donations, caving to Republicans...
The Democratic Party leadership has often been more bitterly opposed to the left than to the GOP.
Progressive members have been censured and excoriated by the leadership, and party elders have assailed progressive activists as being #TooFarLeft...
During the Trump presidency, Dem "opposition" has been catastrophically weak.
While insisting that the #Kavanaugh hearings were a "sham," they refused to walk out and instead went along for a vote that legitimized an accused sexual assaulter...
#Impeachment was utterly botched. Pelosi and her colleagues scoffed at it for months, narrowed it to the point of uselessness, and ended up absolving Trump of 95% of his abuses.
All while passing his signature policies, including a space force...
Meanwhile, #Pelosi has engaged in empty performative gestures, clapping sideways, wearing shades, and tearing paper, then selling merch off it. And basking in the adulation that follows. Basically, playing people for rubes.
Trump thrives on it...
Now #Bernie comes along and sparks a nationwide movement led by young people. He is ahead among voters of color, has the capacity to raise tens of millions in small donations, and is willing to take on the corporate wing of the Democratic Party...
And if you pretend there's no such thing as the Democratic establishment, read this article: nytimes.com/2020/02/27/us/…
The 'establishment' is comprised of the same Dems who have been taking corporate money and appeasing the GOP for decades...
We keep hearing "now isn't the time to question Dems."
Now is EXACTLY the time to determine if Dem leaders have effectively opposed the far right's takeover.
Now is when we MEANINGFULLY OPPOSE Trump and his theocratic, autocratic cronies...
The moral horrors around us (migrants tortured, schoolkids massacred, climate disaster, extreme inequality, white supremacist terrorism, voter suppression, etc.) WILL NOT CHANGE if we keep doing the same thing.
IT'S TIME FOR A POLITICAL REVOLUTION.
