The Assad regime was responsible for 60% of all attacks on churches and other Christian places of worship in the period of 2011-2019.

In the thread below I will outline all the different cases of regime attacks on churches in #Syria as recorded by the @snhr. This is to counter the belief still existing out there that #Assad actively tried to protect Christians during the war.

1. Syriac Orthodox church of Lady of the Holy Belt, Hamidiyah neighborhood - #Homs city.

Shelled several times by the regime in 2012, most notably on 01/09 when it was hit by a helicopter barrel bomb raid, which caused severe damage.
2. Mar Elias Monastery, Rablah village - #Homs governorate.

Shelled several times by the regime in June and September of 2012.

3. Mar Elias Church, al-Qusayr - #Homs governorate.

Shelled several times by the regime throughout 2012-2013, causing damage to the building.

4. Lady of Peace Church, Bustan al-Diwan - #Homs city.

Shelled multiple times by the regime in the period 2012-2014, most notably on July 18 2012.
5. Evangelical Cathedral, Bustan al-Diwan - #Homs city.

Hit by regime shells on April 16, 2012, causing damage to the roof and inside.
6. St. George's Church, Hamidiyah - #Homs city.

Hit by regime shells on June 5, 2012, causing severe damage to the building.

7. Roman Orthodox Cathedral of al-Arbaeen, Bustan al-Diwan - #Homs city.

Shelled twice by the regime, in May 2012, and March 2013 (video), causing serious damage.
8. Syriac Catholic Cathedral, Hamidiyah - #Homs City.

Shelled by the regime in September 2012, causing a fire in the building.
9. Saraya Church, al-Hosn village - #Homs governorate.

Shelled by the regime several times in the second half of 2012, damaging both the building and the courtyard.
10. St. Taqla Church, Darayya - #Damascus region.

Shelled a total of 4 times by the regime throughout the siege. Video detailing damage was recorded on November 26, 2012.
11. St. Paul's Church, Darayya - #Damascus region.

Targeted with barrel bombs by the regime on February 13, 2014, causing severe damage to the building.
12. St. George's Church, Irbin suburb - #Damascus city.

Shelled by regime artillery on September 6, 2013, causing a fire inside the church.
13. Constantine and Helen Church, Yabroud village - #Qalamoon mountains.

Hit by regime artillery on February 5, 2014
14. Armenian Evangelical Church of Jesus the Nazareth, Midan - #Aleppo city.

Hit by regime shells on September 23, 2012
15. Ancient Church of St. George, al-Jedaydah - #Aleppo city.

Served as a refuge for displaced civilians, shelled by the regime on January 16, 2013.

16. Armenian Evangelical Church, al-Jedaydah - #Aleppo city.

Shelled once by the regime on February 16, 2013, damaging the building.
17. Saints Lions and Bachus Cathedral, Busra al-Sham - #Daraa governorate.

Targeted by regime artillery on March 3, 2013, causing part of the building roof to collapse.
18. the Armenian Church, #DeirEzzor city.

Shelled by the regime on September 2, 2012, partially destroying the whole ancient church.
19. Syriac Orthodox Church of Virgin Mary, #DeirEzzor city.

Shelled by regime forces on several occasions throughout 2012-2013, causing serious damage. Video taken on January 23, 2013.
These are just a number of the recorded military attacis by the #Assad regime in churches in #Syria
Of course the #Assad regime wasn't alone in this. Islamic State, Jabhat al-Nusra and other opposition groups are also guilty of targeting churches in #Syria.

But the numbers do not lie, the majority of attacks were done by the forces of the regime.
