#Water management system has been amazingly centuries old thing in India.
at Shringverpur or Sringaverapura near #Allahabad PrayagRaj, one of the amazing canal system was in existence.

there exists extraordinary example of hydraulic engineering dated end of 1st century BC.
comprises of 3 percolation-cum-storage tanks, fed by an 11m wide & 5 m deep canal that used to skim floodwaters off monsoon-swollen Ganga

Water first entered a silting chamber, dirt settled here. Then relatively clean water flows in a brick-lined tank, later to Tank B through a stepped inlet

Next, water passed to a circular Tank C, which had an elaborate staircase. excess water flowed back into Ganga

such traditional #water management system existed in ancient India, but somehow in time these have been lost or out of use? don't know why?
Shringverpur Allahabad-PrayagRaj is historic place, as it is said that Lord Ram crossed River here, Nishad Raj first washed his feet then permited him to board his boat. A temple of Shringi Rishi is also said to be found here
