Translation: The CDC is already admitting that we will run out of basic protective gear. Doctors will get infected - and patients die - as a result.

As doctors in Italian hospitals have explained to me, this is a disaster for two reasons:

* It increases the likelihood that doctors and nurses will contract corona.
* As a result, it puts medical personnel we desperately need to care for patients out of commission.
I know of a number of initiatives, from @sama and others, to figure out how America might be able to ramp up the supply of the basic medical supplies we need.

We all desperately need some good news. So here's a somewhat encouraging development.

In Italy, the daily rate of new infections may be starting to trend down:

March 21st: 6,557.
March 22nd: 5,560
March 23rd: 4,789
March 24th: 5,249

Social distancing works. Stay the course.

And the data for March 25th has just been released: 5,210 new cases.

The decrease in new cases seems to be slow but, so far, pretty steady.

From Tom Friedman to Donald Trump, a growing chorus of voices is calling on us to surrender to the coronavirus.

This would kill millions of Americans. It’s utterly unacceptable.

A few days ago, the WSJ suggested that it is time to wind down the “vast social-distancing project of the last 10 days.”

On the weekend, Tom Friedman suggested that we need “less herd mentality and more herd immunity.”

Now, Trump is vowing to reopen the economy by Easter.
Concern about the economy is not frivolous. Recessions exact a real human toll.

To ignore the economic damage done by efforts at containing the pandemic is not to put human lives above profit; it is to ignore one form of suffering in the service of alleviating another.

Something tragic happened today.

I've struggled with whether to share this because I might come off as blaming someone who just died; that is *not* my intention.

But the story does contain an urgent warning to those who think they're immune to CoViD’s ravages.

So here it goes.
Three days ago, a 28-year old employee of the International Monetary Fund suggested that the cost social distancing is exacting "on the economy" might be more important than "the human aspect of the disease."

Today, he succumbed to CoViD-19.
I'm not sharing his name or FB post. And I don't want anyone to sit in judgment of a young man who made a mistake shared by plenty of people with a lot more power and authority.

But *please* stop thinking you are immune to corona. None of us know whom this virus might kill next.

It takes a LONG TIME to train an ICU doc, I know bec my husband is one. & when they're all sick (or dead) from trying to clean up this mess, our country is going to be in a shitload of trouble, even after this is over. Who's going to take care of your grandparents? #GetThemPPE

I'm using a lot of mods I'm not familiar with that makes it way harder to finish the game, and I'll also be playing on peaceful mode, which I haven't done yet. Settings are mostly default, but it's so modded I'm not sure how the difficulty will be.
Fishing for a good spawn is not crucial since there's no enemies at all, so this is where we'll spend the next 827 hours
