BREAKING: Gov. Newsom calls for the home isolation of all people 65 and older in California due to the coronavirus.
Newsom also called for the home isolation of all people with chronic conditions because of the outbreak.
"We recognize that social isolation for millions of Californians is anxiety-inducing but we recognize what all the science bears out," Newsom said.

Newsom said that people can only visit hospitals and nursing homes for end-of-life situations. They will be dramatically restricting visitors to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
"We need to meet this moment even differently than" the 2008 financial crisis, with a special focus on the individuals who are at risk, Newsom said.
Newsom said 51% of all the school districts in the state are shut down, which means 85ish% of all kids in the state will not be going to school starting Monday.

Asked about whether health care workers will have to stay in home isolation, Newsom said he'll look into how many in California are elderly and said "this is broadly a directive that includes all Californians."
