The Operators of Sunset Mesa Funeral Home in Montrose, Colorado, Megan Hess and her mom Shirley Koch, were arrested for illegally selling & shipping bodies & body parts without consent.
They also shipped infectious body parts!

The funeral home provided burial and cremation services, but many were not actually cremated. It didn’t say if any of it went with bodies that were buried.
Megan Hess also ran a non-profit called Sunset Mesa Funeral Foundation DBA Donor Services, which was a body broker service that was run out of the same location as the funeral home.
In many cases, they ignored family wishes & looks like some families didn’t actually get remains.

So they were told it was their remains, but actually it wasn’t. No idea if families got stranger’s remains or maybe none at all. Maybe they subbed remains with something else?
Hess and Koch also shipped body parts that tested positive for various infectious diseases, including HIV and Hepatitis B & C while certifying they had no diseases.
