This keeps happening, so:

JAIL is where defendants are held pre-trial or (in MA) people w/misdemeanor convictions are sentenced to

PRISON is (in MA) where people w/felony convictions are sentenced to

ICE DETENTION is neither of these things (even if it happens to be in a jail)
ICE arrests/detains pending DEPORTATION proceedings in #immigrationcourt, in which detainees are charged with CIVIL violations of the federal imm. law ranging from unlawful presence (if undocumented) to prior convictions for deportable offenses (if documented). No criminal aspect
So yes, people with greencards can be arrested and held in a Massachusetts jail BY ICE for minor decades-old drug convictions for which they have already paid in jail time/probation/fines, etc. Happens all the time. But they are *not being charged with a new crime.*

1/ BREAKING: 51 #ICE detainees in the Bristol county jail have just jointly signed a letter detailing the circumstances of their detention and their fears of #covid19 while trapped in unsafe, unsanitary, unfit conditions.

They must be heard.

2/ Even during this crisis attorney Ira Alkalay is still doing incredible work on behalf of detainees in Bristol, who can still meet with him behind glass. He was given this letter (already sent to authorities) this morning.

It is, to say the least, alarming.
3/ The sheer inhumanity at work in this paragraph caught my breath.

I’m a strong believer that there is a God purpose behind everything that happens, whether that is what we perceive as being good or being bad.
As I meditate/pray upon this, I want to share with you what I feel the #COVIDー19/#COVID19 virus is really doing to us:
1) It is reminding us that we are all equal, regardless of our culture, religion, occupation, financial situation or how famous we are. This disease treats us all equally, perhaps we should to. If you don’t believe me, just ask Tom Hanks.
2) It is reminding us that we are all connected and something that affects one person has an effect on another. It is reminding us that the false borders that we have put up have little value as this virus does not need a passport.

OK, let's start. Look to the left of the "L" in this 1897 map to see Chelsea's Union Park. I haven't yet found an image of it, but we know it took up an entire city block. It probably had trees, park benches, maybe a fountain. In the heart of the city, it likely got a lot of use!

In @HealthyBoston briefing with @wutrain @CampbellforD4 @EdforBoston @LydiaMEdwards where updates are being provided about efforts to improve #trauma response and recovery models by the City working with CBOs, #healthcenters and #hospitals.
In my 8yrs on the Council, I have convened 7 hearings on #trauma, each with a different focus. Although more work remains, I am encouraged to hear that many of the recs offered up by impacted persons & communities at our hrgs & listening sessions were integrated into new system
Data collection of phase 1 implementation indicates that 75% of clients for #trauma response and recovery efforts were #Black #AfricanAmerican #Hispanic #Latino, AND 74% of clients reported chronic exposure to a single (11%) or multiple forms of #violence (63%)
