Cuomo putting call out to manufacturers who may be able to switch to making key medical supplies, like gloves, gowns, masks.

He's also looking into state resources like he did with prison labor for hand sanitizer, how state gets its uniforms made, etc.

Goldman Sachs donated 100K masks, Cuomo says.

Cuomo says they are looking at a lot of potential sites for more hospital/health care capacity including Javits Center and many college campuses, from Queens College to Hunter College to Fordham U & beyond. Decisions in the works, he says, with Army Corps.

Cuomo: it's all about ventilators. We can create the beds, we can get the supplies somehow, but we need ventilators - ventilators are in this war what missiles were in WWII, he says. Asks anyone with spare ventilators to contact the state.

NEW: Cuomo says executive order coming today to "put New York on PAUSE" to stop the spread of COVID-19. This is his 'shelter in place' policy.

"This is the most drastic action we can take," @NYGovCuomo says.

Grocery stores, pharmacies must continue to function, he says.

(side note: Cuomo spent a full day basically trashing de Blasio & saying he wasn't going to do this, though it seemed he was making a semantic/messaging argument about using "shelter in place" & what it evokes, trying to limit fear/panic)

NY has more than 7,100 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 35 related deaths, Cuomo says. Increase has come quickly as testing has ramped up, unclear how community spread has occurred/contributed.

NY has done more than 30K tests now & up to 10K in a day yesterday.

"This is not really what I do," Cuomo says, but discussing psychological/emotional toll on people of more isolation b/c of this outbreak & its ramifications. "Be mindful," Cuomo says, of what people are going through as they are isolated. Encourages people to talk more.

"We're all in quarantine now," Governor says.

This is not shelter in place, Cuomo says, that term is used for things like school shootings. Says that type of terminology is not being used in CA or here for good reason, idea is not to provoke panic.

Cuomo says food delivery will be allowed as essential. Mass transit will continue to run.

New York State tax filing deadline will move with federal deadline from April 15 to end of July, Cuomo's budget director says.

Cuomo ends briefing announcing someone in his press shop has exhibited symptoms & now quarantined. Hoping for all the best for whomever it is & all others there.

One other note: Cuomo repeatedly said admin is figuring out list of "essential" biz/workers and will have list later today.
