Researchers estimate that without the lockdown, COVID cases would be 53% higher within Hubei, the province home to the city of Wuhan, and 65% higher outside
With no lockdown, cities outside Hubei province would have over 20,000 cases compared to the recorded figure of just over 12,000. Cities inside Hubei (other than Wuhan) would have over 23,000 cases, compared to the recorded figure of just over 15,000
Across China, the number of COVID cases would also peak weeks earlier had there not been a lockdown in Wuhan, with the initial stress on the nation's medical system being much more severe.
