The fact China is lying about virus deaths isn't just about casting blame.

But the lack of good data, especially in districts which focused on social distancing, could help us develop better policy to save lives... And they refuse to provide that too.

Lives are at stake.
If reporters spent 1/10th the energy on shaming China into providing us good data that they spent on shaming Trump for calling it the 'Chinese' virus, the Chinese would have probably given us that data.

Instead...nope. Nada. Nothing.
You want to attack Trump for his flaws? GREAT! I am all for that.

But we need more data on this. China has it. And the vast, VAST majority of reporters reporting on this...don't care to spend even a fraction of their energy on that.
And if you keep repeating literally antiscientific nonsense (like, that the US has the most cases, when we know that most probably that isn't true)...then why should we take you seriously as 'truth finders'...when you are purposely trying to do anything but try to find truth?

So #USA #coronavirus Update.

I am going to add some of the IHME estimates, since Dr. Birx referred to it, and said it aligned with the White House estimates (which we don't readily have access to).

Their estimates say that the US will peak around April 13, after 80k deaths.
New York doesn't seem slowing down. IHME predicts peak on April 5, after 10k deaths. New Jersey and Connecticut peak about a few days later.
California is interesting. Look at the curve. The peak is delayed until April 24, with 6k deaths.

They appear to have successfully flattened the curve.

International #coronavirus update.

The US is definitely leading the world in gross numbers (other than China, which I'll bring up next). Death rates per capita are lower than most other countries though. We haven't even come close to seeing our peak yet.
The Chinese numbers are obviously fake.

At this point, I would probably multiply their total published numbers by at least a factor of TEN.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a 1 million ill, and 30-50,000 dead. That would be approximately a 4% death rate, give or take.
Italy and Spain are a little apart chronologically, but otherwise following the same pattern.

The rest of Europe is following, but may be slightly more prepared, decreasing their mortality rates.

So...either Whitmer lied, or the journalists reporting on her statement...didn't clearly tell the truth.

This is a COMPLETELY different story than we were told earlier this week.

Every reporter that ran this story without verifying it independently should be ashamed.
Sowing this kind of distrust, when the facts do not support the assertions, literally is going to get people killed.

Whitmer probably said something that was vague.

Reporters ran it as "TRUMP IS NOT GIVING HER STUFF BECAUSE SHE IS A DEMOCRAT!"

That wasn't true.
Journalists have to understand that their malfeasance or incompetence literally can result in people dying in a crisis like this.

And so far, many journalists (not all, definitely, but many) are failing the test.

1. The swiftness with which theat level systems and emergency preparedness measures kicked in. Yes, it 'helped' that living through SARS resulted in many SOPs and back-up plans being created, and reduced reaction and reflection time. But leadership played a role too. 2/n
2. Communication was key to creating a sense of calm. There was clear guidance from the healthcare authorities. From universities. From primary care providers. Heck, our *landlord* asked for travel declaration forms being signed within days of a few cases being identified. 3/n
