UAE has offered Rs 700 crore for flood-hit Kerala, Qatar Rs 35 crore& Maldives Rs 35 lakh. MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the govt was committed to meeting the requirements... through domestic efforts.

The 2018 floods were Kerala's biggest natural disaster in history. Claimed 483 lives, displaced over 14.50 lakh people, and left a trail of destruction of about Rs 30k crore, as per official estimates. Center eventually provided Rs 2904 crore.
India is still not taking aid from foreign nations, nobody said so inclu The Hindu report. The point is we should have a rethink abt foreign aid: States may have a strong bond with foreign nations, and they'd feel a deep sense of wanting to serve; if not by money transfer, we...
should be able to channel it in ways so that it accomplishes things like building roads, wells and feeding children— all of which the poor stand to benefit. Or the center should be able to better it by providing a greater sum for relief work to the states
Bcoz, in reality, only the center has the powers needed to raise the kind of money people need when they are hit by coronavirus or the history's worst floods, and save the lives of millions. States have several restrictions, including borrowing limits, to do what is needed.

Free milk for migrants and nursery kids to solve an extra-milk glut in the market, because of the shutdown of hotels and restaurants over the coronavirus.
This is a major relief for both milk farmers, who were worried about non-procurement and losing crucial earnings, and the vulnerable population of migrants and children, who are under stay-at-home orders over the lockdown.
A large inventory of milk, a commodity that needs to be moved in cycles of days as it has a short shelf life, was lying unsold because of the drop in sales over the shut down of hotels and bottlenecks in interstate movement amidst the lockdown.

What's new in Kerala today?

Govt will recharge mobiles of the isolated, will raise a 2.36 lakh strong volunteer army for supplying food-on-call for them. Free rice for those without ration cards too. Dresses for newborns through medical stores, as textile showrooms are shut.
CM: Volunteer force will have people aged btw 22& 40. All 941 panchayats will have 200 volunteers each, 87 municipalities will have 500 volunteers and 6 corporations will have 750 volunteers. Govt will pay for their travel expenses.
CM on the mobile recharge scheme: "For those in quarantine, connect with the outside world is important. Right now, it is happening through mobile phones. The state will ensure their mobile phones are properly recharged."

In a first, Kerala has announced an ambitious scheme to open community kitchens across the state, and home deliver food to those under quarantine, to combat against people falling to starvation during the ongoing lockdown, CM Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters.
The community kitchens will be formed in each panchayat, where food will be prepared and home delivered to those under home quarantine and in hospitals. The move shall also benefit those who could not get hold of essential supplies in the lockdown.
CM asked those who distribute food to take care of all safety regulations. A telephone number will be given for people to reach out and ask for food. Local self-governments (LSGs) will devise the details of the scheme and appoints the cooks and volunteers, he said.

Let me simplify things for the readers as to how the budget looks like & what the numbers mean. Below is the graphic that I have created for the revenue & expense heads for govt of India.Left side is govt INCOME & right side is how it SPENDS for the year. Size Rs 27.8 lac crores
Income of govt:
1) Taxes & non-tax revenue is 61% & 10% respectively. Additionally, another 4% comes by selling govt shares in PSUs. All this adds to 75%.
2) Borrowings forms the balance 25% of Income. This is our govt borrowing money to spend which of-course carries interest.

India is undertaking major military reforms to enhance its capability to fight possible wars with Pakistan & China as PM Modi settles into his 2nd term. The reforms are redrawing military concepts & junking plans that prevailed for over 80 years in slow to reform institutions.
They are also moving forces up much closer to the front lines for quicker mobilization. Previously, this used to happen only when war was imminent.

Breaking: Large terrorist attack in #India. More than 40 Indian Reserve Police Force personnel were killed and many others injured when Pakistani backed terrorists targeted a convoy with a car bomb at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir's today, ndtv.com/india-news/15-…
Reports suggested that the vehicle used by the terrorists was a Mahindra Scorpio carrying more than 350 kg of explosives in what is the worst attack ever on security personnel in the state.
Sources said that terrorists triggered the car bomb while 78 vehicles with over 2,500 reserve police men were on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The stretch on which the incident occurred had been sanitized in the morning & authorities called it a serious breach of security.
